Bag Trends for 2026: What Bag Makers Are Sewing?

Bag trends for 2026 are less about novelty and more about smart design choices, letting the shape, texture, and materials do the hard work. The good news? Many of these trends can be sewn using patterns you already own, with a few simple tweaks.

Here are the bag trends showing up everywhere right now and how makers are sewing them.

East–West Bag Shapes

Still a strong trend carrying into 2026. The low, wide silhouette feels modern and easy to wear. They sit neatly under the arm for comfortable daily use.

As bag makers, this is one of the most accessible trends. Many tote and shoulder bag patterns can be adapted into an east–west shape by adjusting proportions rather than starting from scratch.

Check out my east–west bag hack using a pattern many bag makers already own, the Lauren Bag from MoreMeKnow, showing how to turn it into a more modern shape with minimal changes. See the tutorial here and the pattern here.

Textured Vinyl and Statement Materials

Textured vinyl is everywhere with; soft grain, embossed finishes, and quilted surfaces leading the way. These add interest without complex design, making them perfect for newer bag makers.

Using textured vinyl is one of the easiest ways to update a tried and tested pattern. Keep the shape simple and let the material do the work, then add some bling with contrast handles or hardware for a more luxe look. Check out Luvlola for some great examples of textured vinyl here, and Kiwi Bagineers bling hardware here.

Circular and Curved Bags

Curved shapes continue to feature strongly in 2026. Circular shapes, rounded bases, or strong curved silhouette panels soften the look and move away from more boxy designs.

Curved bags can be structured and strong with firmer materials and stabilising, or soft and slouchy where the fabric is allowed to drape.

Circular bags make great statement pieces and are often roomier than you’d think. I really enjoy sewing them as I can use a huge variety of fabrics, textured vinyl, canvas, and fabric.
