How To Use
The fabric has minimal sideways stretch. Straps can be cut across the grain. Note that the design is directional so take that into account when placing your pattern pieces.
This fabric is 1.0 mm thick and does not require interfacing for most projects.
For a more structured look, fusible interfacing may be applied to this fabric. we recommend Decovil or Vilene heavy backing
ALWAYS TEST on a scrap of fabric first as results will depend on your iron setting and the type/brand of interfacing used.
Make sure that your pressing mat/ironing board is cool before you start.
Place the fabric right side down with the fusible interfacing glue side down on top
Place a pressing cloth over the top
Using an iron set to a medium temperature, press down gently on the fabric for 15-20 seconds, or according to your interfacing instructions, before moving on. Repeat a few times but check the fabric is not getting too hot.
The use of an ironing press may flatten the embossed pattern.
Allow to cool completely, up to 30 minutes and check the bond. Repeat if necessary.
This fabric is fairly easy to sew. We recommend sewing with a microtex needle. Domestic machines will sew better with a roller or walking foot attached. Keep within the parameters of layers that your machine can handle.
Use a stitch length of around 3.4-3.6. You can then reinforce seams if required for sturdier bags, with a second line of slightly smaller stitching, close to the first and inside the seam allowance.
Use a stitch length of 4 for top-stitching.
Leather needles are NOT recommended.
Storage and Care.
The fabric will be loosely folded for shipping, we recommend unfolding it and rolling it for storage. Creases can be gently ironed out using a medium iron and pressing cloth on the REVERSE of the fabric and patience. :)
DO NOT IRON THE EMBOSSED OSTRICH SIDE
(Request a quote for shipping rolled. - If you wish your fabric to be shipped rolled rather than folded, we can quote you for the shipping costs. In the case that your order qualifies for free standard shipping, the quote will represent the balance of payment.)
To iron, if creased - Place fabric, shiny side down onto a cold ironing board and cover with baking paper or pressing cloth. Then iron on a medium setting. Always test on a scrap first. See above.
Care: Wipe down gently with a damp cloth to clean. Do not hand wash or machine wash
